STREET FOOD OF SHEIKH SARAI, NEW DELHI

When you walk down the streets of Sheikh Sarai (WITH FOOD IN YOUR MIND) and look towards your left or right or in any direction you can only see food stalls and college students sitting near them eating their favorite street food. Food is a necessity in our lives but street food is a necessity for every college student who travels with a hundred rupee note in his jeans. Well, not to worry because we are here for your rescue.

Sheikh Sarai has two Delhi University colleges i.e. College Of Vocational Studies and Shaheed Bhagat Singh College. When you walk in to the street you are greeted by students sitting in the corner left drinking the special ‘Chai’ and if you look towards the right, we have our very famous ‘Chole bhatoore Wale Bhaiya’. Moving ahead you will get the aroma of Frankie or Chowmein with students heading inside either into their college (CVS) or into a road side restaurant called Sunny’s Restaurant. This place serves a lot of things but it is popular for its Paneer Frankie, chowmein and burgers. But one cannot finish their meal here without having a bottle of Pepsi or fruit beer. If we move further we see the next college i.e. SBSC and if you take right you go towards a row filled with fragrance of various food items. The row begins with ‘roll wale’ serving amazing rolls with very quick service and cheap prices. If you move ahead you see tiny street restaurants serving Pau Bhaji or Maggie or even Boiled eggs. We move further and see the sight of bliss for every food lover and it is ‘MOMOS WALE BHAHIYA’. He may be the most talked about boy of sheikh sarai as he serves the best momos (as told by most of the students). Even if you are a vegetarian you will love his veg-momos or paneer-momos because they are so fresh and yummy. But you cannot walk away after eating these heavenly dumplings. You need to (yes, YOU NEED TO) have ‘Banta’. This drink acts like a savior that gives your burning tongue a little relief after eating the momos sauce. Costing only 8 rupees it’s the best drink ever.

And finally we reach The Authority. It’s a place that has everything that a college student needs. Photocopy to buying books to recharge to everyone’s favorite FOOD. There you have ‘Sri Ram Chaat’ serving delicious chaats and gol gappas too. Also if you want to quickly eat but need something cheap, try ‘Sharma ji ke Chole Kulche. Yes Mr. Sharma holding his bicycle feeds many hungry students with this delicacy and brings a smile on everybody’s face. But if you need a place which is clean and a bit sophisticated you’ve got to try WRAPIZZZ… A tiny place serving pizza and wraps but its ‘Chili Cheese Toast is the most talked about dish.

Hence in the end our sheikh sarai’s street food journey ends with an ice-cream in our hand and satisfaction in our tummy.

A TIP- If you are traveling by metro, you have to get down at malviya nagar metro station to reach sheikh sarai and by any chance you are waiting there for a friend do try bhelpuri at the ‘bhelpuri stall’, I know you’ll thank us later for this

Well, we hope this little post will help you chose your street food wisely. Admissions are open in DU and we being students of DU wishes you all the best. And if by any chance you join these two colleges mentioned above do let us know and hangout with us someday and we'll share our food journeys together. :)

The MadCap Girls would just say life in Delhi University is incomplete without Street Food.

More posts about street food coming soon.
Stay Tuned :D

BOILED EGG STIR FRY.

These summers are way too much to handle. Thus we were unable to go into the kitchen and cook. We swear, our moms are real superheroes.

But today, it rained. HAH. Finally.

So we went to the kitchen and decided to cook something. As we opened our Fridge the first thing that poped in our head was EGG. Yes, the weather was nice so we cooked egg because usually eating egg during summers is kind off a torture.

STIR FRIED EGGS or BOILED EGG STIR FRY is a really simple and quick dish and can be made without any fancy ingredients. Go Ahead and read the recipe and cook this dish.

RECIPE.
Boiled eggs- 2 per person.
Onion 2, Green Chilly5-6, Tomato3, Green Bellpeppers1, Ginger and Garlic.
Soya sauce, vinegar, tomato sauce, red chilly sause, oregano and chilly flakes.

HOW TO COOK
>Firstly boil your eggs,
>Take a non stick pan and add oil. Let it heat then add fennel (sauf) seeds, garlic, ginger and green chillies. Let them saute.
>Then add onion. Let them turn light brown and then add tomatoes and a little salt so that they cook quicker. Finally, add bellpeppers and saute all of these.
>Cut your boiled eggs into four pieces. (BE CAREFUL)
> So, now add the eggs into the pan and dont stir. First add all the sauces (mentioned above) and oregano and chilly flakes. Add a little salt and black pepper. Make it spicy if you want. Now stir carefully and slowly just for 3-4 seconds.
> Take it out in a bowl and eat it quickly. It tastes best when HOT :)

DO let us know if you cook this easy dish. Share your views to improve the dish or something more innovative.

loads of love.
XOXO

Old Rao Hotel- A FoodBloggers Dream

The Old Rao Hotel located in Bhiwadi Jaipur NH-8( Near Bhiwadi, Near PSW Mills, Kapriwas | Dwarkesh Road cross-junction,BhiwadiIndia) is a place to go and eat the most lavish and delicious Vegetarian Food.

As we live in Gurgaon, it was alomst a 40 kilometres drive and if you are going with your friends or family it will be a really good experience because traveling is always fun and the road is pretty much clean and without traffic issues.

The food was SUPER YUMMY. And we had a great time there.

We ordered-
KADHAI PANEER
BUTTER NAAN
PANEER NAAN
BOONDI KA RAITA

The serivice is quick and the quantity is oh so much. IF you order one naan that is more than enough for two people.

The Kadhai Paneer and the Paneer Naan are very famous here and is mostly seen on tables. Also, we got to know from the regular customers that Biryani is delicious too and all of this can be easily digested with Meethi Lassi by your side.

The Naans were utterly amazing.
A tip for the health concious people- FORGET YOUR DIETING :P

There are too many Rao hotels and dhabas on the road and on both the sides. So, this is how Old Rao Hotel looks and you can anyways locate it because of so many cars standing outside its premise.

This place is so affordable and amazing that we give it 10/10.
No doubt about it.
THE FOOD. THE QUICK SERVICE. THE ATMOSPHERE(DHABA STYLE).
THE TASTE.
 THE PRICES AND EVERYTHING ELSE.

The MadCap Girls had so much fun eating their food and we are so going back to try out some other dishes.

A TIP- GO EMPTY STOMACH. PLEASE :D

CHINESE HUT

Nothing feels better than eating delicious chinese food. And that too spicy street taste added in it. So, on our way home we saw a food truck and it was a quick decision to stop and have a look. Near Arcadia market, South City 2, Gurgaon this truck was parked up and the fragrance from it was so so soothing. We stopped & asked for the menu and ordered
1- chilly garlic noodles
1- veg- fried rice
1- chilly chicken (gravy)

and honestly people it was the meal that made our night. So yummy and so amazing.
And the service was super quick. As in we got all of this in less than 10 minutes. wow.
And the prices were quiet cheap.

Now the important point-- this truck is not there all the time. YES. You can only see it on weekends after 6pm. OMG, Right?
It was like santa, gave us gifts and joy and vanished away.

We wish to provide you more information regardging the truck thus we are providing their phone number along with the post. It was dark SO we were unable to click a picture of their truck and so here is their number. They do home delivery as well. WOOHOO.
PHONE NUMBER- +918459692008

Wait for the next weekend and buy their food. The MadCap Girls says do try it.
AND. AND. AND.

THE ANCIENT BARBEQUE.

The Ancient Bar-Be-Que, aka TAB, is a contemporary and stylish casual fine dining restaurant based upon the concept of live grill and buffet. The MadCap team went to the one that was recently launched in Gurgaon in Sector-50. According to us and our food knowledge, the place was quiet soothing and though it was fully crowded and waiters running around to various tables, there was no chaos. Well oraganized and good place to visit.

Great starters and mind it, both veg and non-veg starters were equally delicious. To add cherry to the cake we ordered Virgin Mojito and Banana shake. The shake had very strong flavors, yet it went well with the spicy starters.

OUR FAVORITE- VEG- CHILLY PANEER AND SALSA POTATO
NON-VEG-  PAN FRIED CHILLY PRAWNS

With the starters coming to an end we went on to the soup and on that day the soup on the menu was the clear chicken and egg soup.

If you visit this place on a special occassion, you are provided with a cake and well everyone sings 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU' for you. Yaaiiee.

The favorite part of the whole dinner (for us) is the salad. So many varieties of salads are available there that one cannot get enough of them. The sweet pasta was our favorite tho ;)

AAH. FOOD. MAIN COURSE. YUM. YUM
Let's be honest, the food was realllllyyyyy tastyyyy. We mean it. But our tummy was full. The starters occupied most of the space and well we were saving a little space for the dessert as well, thus we had very little food. HEHE.
Anyways, by talking to the people around and by seeing their happy faces we knew the main course was good. On the day we went the Veg section was better than the Non-Veg one.

OOOMMMGGG. LOVE IS HERE.

SWEET CRAVING. DESSERT. YUMMMYYYY.

Yes, we ate it all. The dessert was super awesome. No doubt. Full marks.

OUR FAVORITE- BROWNIE AND MOONG DAL KA HALWA.

OH, And before you leave, dont forget to take your KULFI BABY.
ENJOY <3

So, we hope our food review was a little help to y'all and share with us your views about this amazing place by commenting below.
Loads of love from The MadCap Girls.

HAPPY TUMMY. HAPPY YOU.
